Try www.livebinders.com for a FREE user-friendly, and creator-friendly site-creation page. I recommend to setup a binder for each off the classes you teach - All can be accessed with a single ID. You can setup links to these, once created, through your schools' main website for students to access. If you wish to upload material that could be copyright protected, or have pictures of your students, you can set the site to "private" so the students need a password to access it. I simply gave my students the password in September; and to parents on P/T conferences.
Livebinders are organized like an accordian-folder: Major tabs to differentiate topics (I have tabs for homework, labs, finished work, external links, etc...). Within each major tab, you can set up subtabs where you can upload docs (PDF's, MS Docs, some video files) or link to outside sites. What I love about posting links is I can use the formatting tools to have the desired website show up in one corner, while directions on how to navigate it were immediately adjacent.
I also recommend that if you choose to post homework, or other time-sensitive materials, you should include a line for "Last updated on _(date)_." This will help stem off some complaints. Also, on whichever tab you choose to be the 'greeting page' perhaps choose to include various contact info, office hours, etc...
Enjoy
